There is a layer of fog trapped at the surface in a good portion of the region, with light winds and high-pressure overhead; the fog should remain most of the day. As a result, the temperatures in the area will be well below forecasted levels.

Tuesday stays sunny and quiet across the region with dry conditions locked in. Afternoon highs reach the low to mid‑40s, topping out around 46° for Charlotte. Light west-northwest winds will make it feel cool at times, but overall it’s a comfortable winter day with plenty of sunshine across the area.

“Warmer than normal” daytime temperatures and dry, mostly clear skies will continue in Portland through the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend and into next week, forecasters with the National Weather Service predict.
