This former royal navy refueling depot was the mooring site of HMS warrior Britain's first iron clad warship . The ship was moored here from 1929 until 1979 and used as a gloating pontoon to refuel other ships . During World War two thousands of allied ships refuelled here before heading back out to sea and onwards to war .
